Andrea Vinkovic will not be opening her studio for Kalamunda Open Studios 2016
I am inspired by fragility, organic beauty and delicate balance of natural environment, interested in exploring personal and archetypal symbolism of visual language, and intrigued by parallels with cultural environment.
I work with clay. I love the feel, the smell, and the idea of using a natural, earthy, ancient material to explore and express thoughts.
My work is inspired by microscopic images of pollens, planktons, molecules and natural structures, very different in their nature from the human-made objects.
It plays with the idea that natural objects of different origins and on different scale share the similarities and visual language we intuitively recognize and respond to.
I completed an Advanced Diploma of Art and Craft in ceramics at Central TAFE in 2002.I was ceramic technician and casual lecturer at Central Institute of Technology for over five years, and ceramic lecturer at Midland campus of Polytechnic West for two years.
At the end of 2013, I made a decision to reduce my teaching commitments and dedicate more time to clay. Now I work from my purpose built passive solar home studio in the Perth hills.
My ceramic work ranges from very fragile, intimate sculptures:
to large outdoor works:
